In Loving Memory of Ronald Craig

Timber Trades' Benevolent Society Posted on Tuesday 23 September 2025 by MichelleTuesday 23 September 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronnie Craig.

Ronnie had a long and fulfilling career in the timber trade, beginning in 1953 after his service in the army. His journey began with an apprenticeship in Liverpool at Farnworth and Jardine, where he spent his early years measuring and grading logs at the Docks. His commitment to the timber industry then  led him to Churchill and Simm where he earned his Timber Development Association Certificate in 1954 after completing the Timber Technology Course. In the late 1960s, Ronnie joined his brother as a director at Charles Craig Timber Agents Ltd. In the 1980s, he ventured out on his own, purchasing the assets of Farnworth and Jardine before joining WM Brandts in 1986. Later in life, he returned to consulting and continued working with AF & D Mackay Ltd well into his 70s.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ronnie was an avid rugby and a longstanding member of the North West TTBS. His love for the game was evident, and he was proud to have participated in the Liverpool V Manchester Rugby match at Waterloo RUFC in 1955.   He loved rugby as much as he loved the timber business, and both were integral to who he was.

An enthusiast for motoring, Ronnie was often found in his garage, taking apart and fixing engines, always tackling a new project with enthusiasm and skill. He found joy in the mechanical, the methodical and the creative – traits that defined his approach to life.

A funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s Church, Blundellsands, Liverpool on Monday 6th October, 2025 at 11 am –  followed by light refreshments at Firewood Waterloo Rugby Club.

As we remember Ronnie, we invite anyone who knew him through his work, rugby, or any other part of his journey to share in this final tribute to a man whose life was rich in experience.

He will be sadly  missed.
